From the Toybox: Spartacus Large Realistic Glass Dildo

Each Friday, we will choose an item from Silverdrop’s Toybox to review, either sponsored by a manufacturer or retailer, or an item we choose ourselves.

Spartacus Large Realistic
Glass Dildo

Pros
It is an absolutely, mind-bogglingly beautiful piece of erotic art
Wonderful for foreplay and teasing

Cons
Way too big for insertion
No storage pouch

Bottom Line
A triumph of form over function. It’s a gorgeous work of art, but simply too big.

The Spartacus Large Realistic Glass Dildo is a stunningly beautiful object. If it were thinner, it would be getting a perfect review. We put it under our Christmas tree and loved the reflections and internal refractions of the tree lights only added to its visual appeal. Since my husband is bi, we’re both fans of cocks, and we adore this simply as an ornament.

Glass dildos are usually abstract. This one is a stylized realistic cock and balls, and it is elegantly made. The head is strongly sculpted. The shaft includes quite a few veins. Perhaps more than would be realistic, but add to the beauty of the whole. The balls are very simply designed, with no definition other than a dip in the scrotum between the two balls. The base makes it stable enough to stand upright on its balls.

However. We also wanted to be able to use it as an insertion toy. And when it comes to that, it’s just Too. Damn. Big. Glass is unyielding, and so the 5.5″ circumference is going to feel a lot bigger than the same size in flesh or silicone. When the dildo doesn’t give, all the give has to be in the recipient. And unfortunately, though we have 5 orifices between us, we experienced very little success in insertion. Neither of us could get it into our mouth. I could not get it inserted into my vagina. With anal play, we did a bit better. My husband was able to accept most of the head, and hopes to receive the entire head eventually. But due to the natural curvature of the rectum, he does not intend to try anything further than that. I also had a little bit of anal success, but I am not a size queen. I don’t want to force anything in just for the sake of saying ‘I did it’.

You would think that with the insertion failure that we’d be disappointed in this toy, but it’s simply so beautiful that we can’t keep our hands off of it. We often use it as part of foreplay – teasing with it to get the other’s attention, or running the shaft along one another’s bodies. Sometimes, one of us will say to the other, “I’ll get the Spartacus!” as a tease or a warning.

As a glass toy, this can be used with any lube and sterilized in the dishwasher or in boiling water. It can be used for temperature play, though this is not really anything we bother with. It is certainly safe for anal play, with the balls providing an adequate flange, though I highly doubt there are many people who would get to the point where that would be the last fail-safe between them and an ER visit.

The dildo comes well secured in a hexagonal tube, but it is not really reusable for storage. Unfortunately, it does not come with any sort of storage pouch. If we weren’t keeping it on display in our bedroom we would worry about it getting scratched or chipped in the toy drawer.
